Budapest’s first Pride parade since Viktor Orbán lost power shifted the debate beyond freedom of assembly last year, as Mayor Gergely Karácsony called for the legalization of same-sex marriage. The proposal mirrors developments in neighbouring Poland, where comparable political and legal changes have gradually expanded LGBT rights following the fall of the conservative PiS government.
