The printing of Hungary’s national petition has been completed and postal distribution will begin this week, according to a Facebook video published on Monday by Balázs Hidvéghi, Parliamentary State Secretary at the Prime Minister’s Cabinet Office.
Hidvéghi encouraged citizens to ‘send a message to Brussels that we will not pay,’ stressing that Hungarians do not want to finance the war, Ukraine’s operation for the next decade or longer, or higher household utility costs resulting from the conflict. He said the petition allows people to say no to all three issues.
According to the state secretary, Brussels has been pouring Europeans money uncontrollably into Ukraine and the war without consulting citizens. As a result, Europeans were never asked whether they wanted Europe to enter the conflict or whether they were willing to bear its financial costs.
He argued that the Brussels elite continuously repeats slogans calling for war and further payments. Hidvéghi cited European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen as frequently stating that Europe must fight, while European People’s Party leader Manfred Weber has argued that Ukraine must be financed regardless of cost or duration. He added that they are the Brussels bosses of the Tisza party.
Hidvéghi claimed that 170 billion euros, or around 70,000 billion forints, have already been spent, and that Brussels now wants Europeans to cover further demands. According to his statement, EU leaders aim to collect an additional 800 billion euros from member states to fund the operation of the Ukrainian state, as well as a further 700 billion euros for war-related expenditures.
He said Brussels intends to raise this money through austerity measures, tax increases and the abolition of household utility price reductions, implemented via what he described as a compliant puppet government in Hungary.
This must be stopped, Hidvéghi said, once again calling on citizens to join the national petition and send a clear message to Brussels that Hungary will not pay.
