BYD has signed an environmental cooperation agreement with the University of Szeged, under which the university will carry out independent environmental monitoring, the multinational company said on Monday.
Under the agreement, the university will act as an independent external expert in environmental monitoring. Its specialists will measure air quality, industrial wastewater, groundwater and soil conditions, as well as noise levels, while also monitoring stationary emission sources.
The University of Szeged will also analyze the measurement results and contribute to the development and continuous improvement of monitoring plans.
The aim of the cooperation is to make BYD Auto Hungary’s environmental monitoring more thorough, objective and transparent by drawing on the university’s expertise in environmental sciences, the company said.
The agreement is also intended to ensure that environmental data collected through the monitoring process are accurate, reliable and traceable, according to the statement.
Zoltán Kónya, the University of Szeged’s vice rector for science and innovation, said the cooperation would bring together academic expertise and industrial practice to protect the environment through objective measurements and fact-based decision-making.
BYD said environmental protection was a key element of its sustainability strategy. The company will continue to conduct its environmental monitoring in accordance with applicable legislation and make relevant environmental data publicly accessible as required by regulations.
The company also said it would continue to cooperate with authorities and local residents while continuously improving its environmental practices.
