The Aeropark aviation museum will host its Night of Aviation event on Saturday, offering visitors a range of programmes exploring the past, present and future of flying.
According to information provided by the museum, visitors will be able to see special airport vehicles and vintage cars, explore illuminated aircraft cockpits and watch aircraft engines being started. Pilots and other aviation professionals will also be on hand.
The programme will include career guidance sessions, demonstrations, talks, night-time airport tours and sightseeing flights.
This year’s event will focus on the early years of Hungarian civil aviation. Organizers are marking the 80th anniversary of the first scheduled flights operated by Maszovlet to Debrecen and Szombathely, using the occasion to trace the development of Hungarian civil aviation over the past eight decades.
The museum’s approximately 70-year-old Il-14 passenger aircraft will have its 1,900-horsepower radial engines started several times during the evening. A jet engine will also be operated.
Visitors will also be able to see modern vehicles used at Budapest Airport, including a 40-tonne Panther firefighting vehicle, a high-performance snow blower and an ambulift operated by the AMS Ambulance Service.
Pilots, cabin crew members, air traffic controllers and other airport professionals will take part in stage discussions, sharing insights into the aviation industry, the behind-the-scenes work required to ensure flight safety, and changes in travel habits and onboard etiquette.
Pilot schools and HungaroControl will also introduce their work, while visitors can learn more about air traffic control and airport security operations. Interactive demonstrations will include a presentation of the work of airport sniffer dogs.
The cockpits of historic aircraft will also come to life during the evening. Visitors will have the opportunity to meet former pilots who flew aircraft including the Tu-134, Tu-154 and Il-18.
Music will be provided by the Finance Guard Band, as well as singer Lilla Vincze and her band.
Visitors will also be offered a behind-the-scenes look at Budapest Ferenc Liszt International Airport, while the Budapest–Budapest flights will operate again.
From the historic Terminal 1, the world’s only airworthy Li-2 aircraft will also take off for a nostalgic flight.
