The fifth instalment of the annual CPAC Hungary political conference is taking place today, Saturday, 21 March, at the MTK Sports Centre in Budapest, Hungary. As is tradition for this event series, Prime Minister Viktor Orbán of Hungary gave one of the keynote addresses.
He recalled that a year ago at this very event, the attendees were celebrating the victory of President Donald Trump in the 2024 US presidential election. Since President Trump took office for a second time, the world has become a better place, the Prime Minister argued, as the woke ideology and gender theory have taken receeded, people can proudly express their faith in Christianity again, the ‘green madness’ in energy policy has been stopped, and people are free to say no to mass migration all around the world, according to PM Orbán.
He went on to state that US–Hungary relations are in their ‘golden age’, and noted the number of recent victories by populist right-wing parties in South American countries, namely Chile, Bolivia, and Argentina. PM Orbán gave special attention to Argentina, as President Javier Milei of the South American nation is one of the distinguished guests at CPAC Hungary 2026. As the speaker pointed out, President Milei has cut down inflation and poverty during his tenure, for which voters rewarded him with a midterm election win for his La Libertad Avanza party in October 2025.
On European matters, Prime Minister Orbán has told the audience that ‘3.5 of the Visegrád Four is already there.’ With this statement, he referred to the right-wing populist governments of Prime Minister Fico in Slovakia and Andrej Babiš in Czechia; while Poland currently has a conservative President in Karol Nawrocki, but an EU-aligned, centre-left Prime Minister in Donald Tusk. The speaker also shared his condolences to the people of Czechia who suffered a terror attack yesterday, preventing PM Babiš from speaking at CPAC Hungary 2026 in person.
An EU Summit took place in Brussels, Belgium, this Thursday, 19 March. PM Orbán joked: ‘We know about it, because they talked a lot about us’, referring to the international headlines about Hungary vetoing the €90 billion EU loan to Ukraine. However, the Prime Minister pointed out, there was an even more important development at the summit: all leading EU nations agreed that if the Iran war triggers a second wave of mass migration into Europe, they will not open their borders to the incoming migrants. The Prime Minister shared that upon this news, he immediately thought of his friend Geert Wilders from the Netherlands, who was the only Western European political leader who fought for this aim for years. Wilders, at last, achieved his objective against all odds.
The Prime Minister also said that he believes that in the next few years, we will see ‘the whole world be clothed in patriotic colours’, referring to potential election wins of nationalist, right-wing parties around the world.
He also declared that ‘We are fighting for the soul of the Western world’, and that this is not just a fight in the political arena, but in academia and religious organizations as well.
Hungary, he continued, is a crucial battleground in that scrimmage, and it would be the greatest achievement of the globalist-progressive forces to have Budapest fall in the next Hungarian election in April. PM Orbán shared that his government is currently under pressure from the East and the West, with Ukraine refusing to restart the Druzhba pipeline, and Brussels withholding EU funds to Hungary. He also described Brussels as the ‘last bastion’ of the international globalist-progressive movement.
Prior to PM Orbán’s speech, an exclusive video message by President Trump from Washington, DC was played on the jumbotron. The President described Hungary as a ‘great place, great country’ and reiterated his endorsement of Prime Minister Orbán in his reelection bid. He also commanded the Hungarian government for their effective border control and the consequent low crime rate in the country.
‘CPAC Hungary 2026 is “a great signal that there are leaders in Europe that understand responsibility”’
Prime Minister Babiš of Czechia, for the aforementioned sad reason, also only sent a video message. In it, he expressed his regret for not being able to make it in person and stated that CPAC Hungary 2026 is ‘a great signal that there are leaders in Europe that understand responsibility’. In an alliterated message, he stressed the importance of ‘sovereignty, security, and stability’ for nations in these days of uncertainty. PM Babiš also told the audience that certainty may not sound like an exciting concept, but it is exactly what countries need today, and it is exactly what Prime Minister Orbán represents for Hungary.
Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze of Georgia gave the other keynote address for the day. He told the audience that CPAC Hungary has become ‘an important platform to discuss the future of nations’, and honoured the life and work of the recently deceased Patriarch Ilia II of the Georgian Orthodox Church. He also noted his nation’s high GDP growth.
On more timeless matters, PM Kobakhidze stressed that the nations that proved to be resilient were the ones that had a clear sense of national identity. Georgia, he added, is a prime example of that, having survived for over 1,000 years as a nation.
