Hungary has not yet decided whether to return to the Eurovision Song Contest in 2027, although the contest’s organizers have offered the country a significant reduction in its participation fee and an extension to the application deadline, Duna Media Service Nonprofit Ltd said on its public media Facebook page on Thursday.
According to the post, acting CEO András Horváth recently held talks with the Eurovision organizers and indicated that participation was a strategic decision that should be made by the permanent management of the public media service, which is currently undergoing restructuring.
The parties agreed on a substantial reduction in Hungary’s participation fee, while the organizers also offered an extension of the application deadline until 7 December 2026, the post said.
The final decision on Hungary’s participation in the 2027 Eurovision Song Contest will be made by the public media service’s permanent management following approval by the Independent Public Media Board, it added.
Hungary has not participated in the Eurovision Song Contest since 2019, when Joci Pápai represented the country after winning the Hungarian selection show The Song.
