A Canadian court has found local Pride organizer Jake Tucker guilty of multiple human trafficking-related offences, including the pimping of two women.
According to local media reports, a jury in Barrie delivered its verdict last week, convicting Tucker on seven of ten charges, including trafficking in persons, procuring, and materially benefitting from the sexual services of two women. The case centred on allegations that Tucker recruited and controlled the women over several years, profiting from their involvement in the sex trade.
The 39-year-old, who founded Innisfil Pride and served as its leading public figure, had been a prominent organizer of local Pride events and LGBTQ advocacy in Ontario. While not a national figure, Tucker played a central role in grassroots Pride organizing in the Barrie–Innisfil area, helping establish one of the region’s key community-based LGBTQ initiatives.
Prosecutors argued during the trial that Tucker developed relationships with the women before gradually exerting control over their activities, including arranging clients and taking a share of their earnings. The jury accepted the core of this argument, finding that exploitation and financial gain had been proven beyond reasonable doubt.

However, the verdict also drew a distinction between trafficking-related offences and more serious allegations. Tucker was acquitted of charges including sexual assault, assault, and assault with a weapon, indicating that jurors did not find sufficient evidence of physical violence.
Speaking to reporters after the ruling, Tucker maintained his innocence and confirmed he would appeal. ‘Not over at all,’ he said, rejecting claims that he operated an escort business and insisting he had instead run a swingers club.
The case followed a police investigation launched after complaints were filed, with the alleged offences spanning several years and involving two complainants. A publication ban remains in place protecting the identities of the victims.
Tucker now faces sentencing at a later date and the possibility of a lengthy prison term. His appeal is expected to challenge both the evidentiary basis of the convictions and the conduct of the investigation.
