Hungarian Interchurch Aid has launched an emergency fundraising campaign to support communities affected by a powerful earthquake that struck the southern Philippines earlier this week.
A magnitude 7.8 earthquake hit the island of Mindanao on Monday, causing widespread damage across several regions. Initial reports indicate that at least 19 people have been killed and more than 200 injured, although officials warn that the toll could rise as rescue and recovery operations continue.
The earthquake and subsequent landslides damaged or destroyed buildings, disrupted transportation networks, and triggered power outages in affected areas. While tsunami-related restrictions imposed after the quake have since been lifted, local authorities and aid organizations remain focused on emergency response efforts and assessing the full extent of the damage.
Expressing solidarity with those affected, Hungarian Interchurch Aid announced that it is collecting donations to assist the disaster-stricken communities. The organization said it has already established contact with its local partner organization to ensure that assistance reaches those most in need as quickly and effectively as possible.
The charity has called on the Hungarian public to support relief efforts. Donations can be made through the organization’s website or via bank transfer, with contributions directed toward emergency assistance and recovery measures in the affected regions.
Humanitarian organizations continue to monitor the situation closely as search, rescue, and relief operations remain underway across Mindanao.
