The Hungarian government has requested an extraordinary session of Parliament for next Monday and Tuesday to debate and vote on eight legislative proposals, according to a letter published on the National Assembly’s website.
The request was submitted by Minister heading the Prime Minister’s Office Bálint Ruff on behalf of the government.
Among the proposed agenda items are amendments to legislation on managing weather-related and other natural risks affecting agricultural production, a bill repealing certain provisions governing crypto-asset exchange services, and legislation establishing the National Asset Recovery and Protection Office.
Lawmakers may also return to a transport reform package whose final vote was postponed earlier this week. The proposal aims to improve the competitiveness and efficiency of public transport by creating a national public transport organizer and an independent national rolling stock management company.
The government has also requested debate on amendments required to fulfil energy-related commitments under Hungary’s Recovery and Resilience Plan (RRP), as well as tax measures linked to the implementation of the RRP, selected government programmes and government resolutions.
Parliament is also expected to consider legislation on the full disclosure of the former communist regime’s state security activities and amendments concerning the official use of the terms ‘county’ and ‘government commissioner’.
Ruff said the proposal on state security archives is intended to strengthen transparency and democratic accountability by ensuring broader access to historical records and increasing the openness of public institutions.
According to the minister, the amendments relating to county administration and government commissioners are designed to improve the clarity of the public administration system and promote consistent legal interpretation.
The government said adopting the bills would support economic competitiveness, reduce burdens on households and businesses, facilitate the full absorption of European Union funding, accelerate renewable energy and geothermal reforms, and establish an independent state-owned rolling stock management company.
Ruff added that creating the National Asset Recovery and Protection Office would strengthen efforts to uncover abuses involving public assets, prevent losses of state property and stop the unlawful transfer of public wealth.
Parliament’s spring session ended on 15 June. Since then, the government has requested an extraordinary sitting every week, making next week’s meeting the seventh extraordinary parliamentary session since the regular session concluded.
