Three new higher education programmes could be introduced in Hungary, while an Artificial Intelligence Informatics master’s programme could be added to the country’s official higher education programme register, according to a draft amendment published for public consultation on Monday.
The three proposed programmes are higher education vocational programmes in organic farming and biotechnology, as well as a master’s programme for rehabilitation specialists.
The Hungarian University of Agriculture and Life Sciences (MATE) initiated the establishment of two of the three programmes.
The proposed organic farming programme would train specialists with modern theoretical and practical knowledge capable of operating sustainable and environmentally friendly agricultural and food production systems. Graduates would also be equipped to establish and manage their own organic farms.
MATE also proposed the creation of a master’s programme for rehabilitation specialists. The programme would train professionals to address losses in cognitive, social and everyday living skills resulting from ageing, illness or other causes, and to help patients relearn skills they have lost.
Graduates would contribute to improving the quality of life of people requiring assistance, preventing further deterioration of their abilities, strengthening social connections and improving the effectiveness of rehabilitation and care provided within healthcare and social welfare systems.
The University of Debrecen proposed the establishment of the biotechnology higher education vocational programme. The programme would prepare specialists to support professional work in biotechnology production, research, innovation and education at companies, research institutions and higher education institutions, while also providing a foundation for further studies.
Students would receive theoretical and practical training in biotechnology, molecular biology, microbiology, genetics, biochemistry, analytical chemistry and bioanalysis.
The proposed amendment would also add the Artificial Intelligence Informatics master’s programme to the official higher education programme register. The proposal is justified by what the government describes as significant social and labour-market demand for the programme.
The public consultation on the draft will run until 18 August.
