Hungary’s newly elected parliament will convene for its inaugural session on 9 May at 10am, President Tamás Sulyok announced after holding consultations with representatives of parties that secured mandates in the recent election.
According to a statement from the Sándor Palace, the talks began on Friday and included representatives from the election-winning Tisza Party, as well as Fidesz, KDNP, and Mi Hazánk. Gergely Gulyás, the minister heading the Prime Minister’s Office, also took part.
Key topics discussed included preparations for verifying mandates, the process for signing oath documents, arrangements for the inaugural session, the seating order in parliament, and preparations for electing parliamentary officials. Participants also reviewed the structure of parliamentary committees and issues related to foreign affairs and diplomatic bodies. The consultations were chaired by Director General of the Office of the National Assembly György Such.
Earlier this week, Péter Magyar, leader of the Tisza Party and Hungary’s incoming prime minister, announced that Ágnes Forsthoffer, the party’s deputy leader and newly elected MP for Veszprém County’s second constituency, would be nominated as speaker of parliament.
Magyar also confirmed that the incoming government plans to operate with 16 ministries.
