Hungary’s public broadcaster will relaunch the M1 News programme in the second half of August with a new editor-in-chief and a refreshed presenting team, Duna Media Service said on Monday.
According to the broadcaster, the overhaul is part of a broader renewal of the public media service, with the aim of strengthening M1 as a public-service news channel in line with public broadcasting editorial principles.
Gábor Hajdú will serve as editor-in-chief of the revamped programme, while veteran television presenter Miklós Borsa will return to the screen after an absence of more than ten years. The broadcaster said the live news programme, which airs several times a day, will feature a combination of experienced journalists and emerging talent.
Hajdú graduated from Bessenyei György Teacher Training College before earning a television and film producer qualification. He began his career at Hungarian Television in 1997 and later worked at Duna TV as a reporter, correspondent and senior editor. From 2015, he worked for Hír TV and later Echo TV, before gaining experience in corporate communications and corporate social responsibility in the business and non-profit sectors.
Borsa began his television career at Nap TV and TV2 as a reporter, editor and presenter. He later became a prominent presenter of Duna News and hosted the current affairs programme Közbeszéd before anchoring the M1 News. Holding degrees in economics and communications, he speaks three languages fluently and has regularly participated in the Budapest–Bamako rally, producing several documentaries from his travels in Africa.
The broadcaster also announced that Szimonetta Mészáros will join the presenting team as part of the younger generation of journalists. A graduate in communication and media studies from Budapest Metropolitan University, she previously worked as a radio presenter at Gong Radio and Radio Pápa, and as a newsreader at Hajdúszoboszló City Television. She joined the public media organization in 2024, working first for National Sports Radio and later Petőfi Radio.
Duna Media said the full list of new M1 News presenters will be announced in the coming weeks.
