Hungary’s public broadcaster has signed a cooperation agreement with the Sziget Festival to broadcast concerts by Hungarian performers on the M1 television channel, the Duna Médiaszolgáltató Nonprofit Ltd announced on Wednesday.
According to the statement, the agreement was signed by Sziget founder Károly Gerendai and András Horváth, the acting chief executive of the public broadcaster. The concert recordings will air on M1 later this summer and will also be available for a limited period on the Médiaklikk streaming platform.
The broadcaster noted that the partnership comes after Gerendai resumed strategic leadership of the Sziget Festival at the end of 2025. It said the festival, regarded as one of the world’s top ten international music festivals, is continuing its development under renewed direction.
The cooperation will focus on showcasing the diversity of Hungarian popular music while promoting artistic freedom and cultural openness. According to the statement, both organizations share the view that music can build bridges between generations and communities while providing space for creative expression.
Gerendai said Sziget has always celebrated openness, cultural exchange and artistic freedom.
‘We are pleased that, with the support of the public broadcaster, these experiences can reach people who are unable to attend the festival in person. We hope this cooperation will bring Hungary’s outstanding musical artists to an even wider audience,’ he said.
Horváth said the role of the public broadcaster is to make high-quality and diverse cultural content accessible to everyone.
‘The concerts by Hungarian artists at Sziget highlight the richness of the country’s contemporary music scene and the creative freedom behind these performances. We are pleased to work with a festival that has been a defining part of Hungary’s cultural life for decades, and we hope these broadcasts will attract new viewers as well,’ he said.
Further details, including the performing artists and broadcast schedule, will be announced by the public broadcaster at a later date.
