Mayor Zohran Mamdani of New York City is getting it from all sides. The new standout star of the socialist wing of the Democratic Party in the United States has evidently always been attacked from the right. However, last week, he was exposed to attacks from the left as well.
The Washington Free Beacon has unearthed that Mayor Mamdani’s wife, Rama Duwaji, had used a racial slur on her social media in the past. Using the handle @_RamaDee on Twitter (since renamed X), the Syrian American First Lady of NYC called another user ‘n*gga’ in the replies in 2013. She was just 15 years old at the time, and she no longer uses that handle on X; it is now taken over by a different user.
The use of racially insensitive language is very much condemned in progressive circles.
‘When a tabloid recently published old tweets I wrote as a teenager, I felt a lot of shame being confronted with language I used that is so harmful to others; being 15 doesn’t excuse it,’ Duwaji has told the US arts magazine Hyperallergic in response to her uncovered social media post.
However, it is important to note that the Beacon did not run her use of offensive language as the headline for their exposé. Rather, they focused on the numerous social media posts Duwaji made and posted in support of Islamist and far-left extremism.
For instance, in 2015, she retweeted a message saying ‘F**k Tel Aviv. Shouldn’t exist in the first place. They’re occupiers.’ In 2017, she posted an image on her Tumblr page in honour of Palestinian terrorist Leila Khaled of the Marxist–Leninist terror group the Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine (PFLP). Duwaji was 18 and 20 years old at the time of these posts, respectively.
Mamdani Vows to Take On White Wealth Gap in New York City
In the meantime, the popular X account EndWokeness has posted a clip of Mayor Mamdani giving an interview, in which he talks about the wealth gap between white and black residents of New York City.
In it, Mamdani says:
‘First and foremost, you have to acknowledge the truth. It’s not an indictment of any one New Yorker; it’s an indictment of politics and policies. There’s no way we can accept a New York City where the median household wealth of a black family is less than $20,000…We have a $1.2 billion deal to deliver universal childcare. We’re starting with four sets of neighbourhoods. We were intentional about picking the neighbourhoods that are often last, often overlooked. We’re talking about Canarsie, Brownville, Far Rockaway.’
In all three of those neighbourhoods mentioned by the Mayor (despite claiming the City will be focusing on four at the start of the programme…), white people are in the minority. It ranges from a white population of around 30 per cent in Far Rockaway to a white population of just about 5 per cent in Brownsville.

Previously, Mayor Mamdani received public backlash for alleged racial bias against white people after voicing his intention to tax ‘white neighbourhoods’ in New York City. To be precise, in July 2025, it was revealed that an official policy document for his campaign for the Mayorship proposes to ‘shift the tax burden from overtaxed homeowners in the outer boroughs to more expensive homes in richer and whiter neighbourhoods’.
