Péter Magyar, leader of the Tisza Party and Hungary’s incoming prime minister, has finalized the full list of ministers for his future government, following the announcement of the heads of the interior and justice portfolios.
The Ministry of Interior will be led by Gábor Pósfai, the party’s operational director, who will oversee law enforcement and sports. Meanwhile, Márton Melléthei-Barna, the party’s legal director, has been nominated to head the Ministry of Justice.
Magyar previously indicated that his administration would consist of 16 ministries, with several key positions already announced in recent weeks. The foreign affairs portfolio will be headed by Anita Orbán, while András Kármán is set to become finance minister. The economy and energy ministry will be led by István Kapitány, and healthcare will be overseen by Zsolt Hegedűs.
Environmental policy will fall under László Gajdos, while defence will be managed by Romulusz Ruszin-Szendi. The agriculture and food sector will be headed by Szabolcs Bóna.
Earlier announcements also named Bálint Ruff as head of the Prime Minister’s Office and Viktória Lőrincz as minister for regional and rural development.
Additional portfolios include transport and infrastructure, to be led by Dávid Vitézy, and social affairs, headed by Vilmos Kátai-Németh. Education and child policy will be overseen by Judit Lannert.
The cabinet will also feature Zoltán Tarr as minister responsible for social relations and culture, and Zoltán Tanács as minister for science and technology.
In addition, Kriszta Bódis will serve as a government commissioner responsible for coordinating social policy strategy.
Tamás Sulyok formally tasked Magyar with forming a government on 15 April. The new parliament is set to hold its inaugural session on 9 May, when Magyar is expected to be elected prime minister and take the oath of office.
Following the session, parliamentary committees will begin hearings for the ministerial nominees. Under Hungary’s constitution, ministers are appointed by the president on the recommendation of the prime minister, formally establishing the new government.
In the 12 April parliamentary election, the Tisza Party secured 141 seats, ahead of the Fidesz–KDNP with 52 mandates and Mi Hazánk with six.
