Hungary’s place is firmly within the European and transatlantic alliance system as a committed member of the European Union and NATO, Andrea Bujdosó, leader of the Tisza Party’s parliamentary group, said following talks at the US Embassy in Budapest.
In a Facebook post on Wednesday, Bujdosó said she and Márton Hajdú, chairman of the Hungarian Parliament’s Foreign Affairs Committee, met with N Rashad Jones, First Secretary for Political and Economic Affairs at the US Embassy, and Rick Heater, Acting Deputy Head of the Political and Economic Section, at the embassy’s request.
According to Bujdosó, the delegation presented the parliamentary group’s work, its functioning and its experiences since entering parliament. During the discussion, they also outlined the Tisza Party’s foreign policy position.
She said the party believes in open, values-based international relations built on mutual respect and trust.
‘We are interested in partnerships in which Hungary participates as a reliable and predictable partner while clearly representing its own national interests. Hungary’s interest lies in pursuing a consistent foreign policy and building alliances based on mutual trust,’ Bujdosó wrote.
She added that strengthening direct ties between the US Congress and the Hungarian Parliament was a key topic of the meeting.
According to the parliamentary group leader, establishing regular and substantive dialogue between lawmakers in the two countries would help reinforce Hungarian–American relations beyond individual political cycles.
