Prime Minister Viktor Orbán and Hans Kluge, WHO Regional Director for Europe, discussed Hungary’s vaccination drive, efforts to restart the economy, and ties with WHO.
The meeting took place at the Carmelite Monastery in Budapest on Thursday, Bertalan Havasi, the Prime Minister’s press chief said.
Orbán and Kluge agreed that the economy and life should be gradually restarted. The Regional Director of the WHO reiterated his opinion that schools should be the last to be closed and the first to be opened.
Hans Kluge expressed his appreciation for Hungary’s success in containing the epidemic. ‘There is an exemplary vaccination campaign in Hungary’, Hans Kluge underscored, adding that the vaccine should be seen ‘as a life-saving tool.’ Vaccination should not be seen as a geopolitical issue. It is the only means of overcoming the epidemic, and all vaccines are effective, the WHO Regional Director and the Hungarian Prime Minister emphasized.
