Balázs Orbán, Political Director to Prime Minister Viktor Orbán, said the recent Peace March represented a decisive turning point in Hungary’s election campaign, significantly boosting momentum for the governing parties.
In a Facebook post, he wrote that the event energized the national side and helped carry that momentum into the prime minister’s ongoing nationwide campaign tour. He cited campaign stops in cities including Kaposvár, Eger, Dunaújváros, Szentendre and Miskolc as evidence of growing mobilization among voters opposed to the war and what he described as Ukrainian pressure.
According to Balázs Orbán, turnout at government-aligned events has consistently exceeded that of opposition gatherings, sometimes by two to three times. He added that this trend is reflected in polling data, pointing to a recent survey by the Nézőpont Institute showing Fidesz–KDNP at 46 per cent, ahead of the Tisza Party at 40 per cent, with Mi Hazánk at 8 per cent.
He also reiterated claims that external actors are seeking to influence Hungary’s election campaign, arguing that Brussels is intervening through social media platforms and supporting opposition leader Péter Magyar. He referred to cooperation between EU institutions, fact-checking organizations and NGOs aimed at countering disinformation, which he said could affect campaign content.
Balázs Orbán further alleged increasing links between the opposition and foreign actors, including Ukraine, and suggested that a forthcoming national security report could shed more light on the issue.
He criticized what he described as unequal media conditions, claiming that government politicians face sustained criticism while opposition figures receive more favourable coverage.
Looking ahead to the election, Balázs Orbán said the governing parties aim to secure a decisive victory that would clearly demonstrate majority support for their platform focused on peace and security.
He also highlighted international backing for the Hungarian government, noting that several conservative political figures expressed support for Viktor Orbán at recent events, including CPAC Hungary.
Balázs Orbán concluded that the campaign has entered a decisive phase, with mobilization expected to play a key role in determining the outcome of the vote scheduled for 12 April.
