Outgoing Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orbán condemned the latest assassination attempt against US President Donald Trump, stating that ‘there is no place for violence in politics.’

As reported by Hungarian Conservative, a gunman opened fire at the Washington Hilton in Washington, DC, where President Trump was attending the White House Correspondents’ Dinner. The shots were fired during a break in the event, prompting an immediate response from law enforcement and the Secret Service, who escorted the president to safety.
No civilians were injured, while one officer was struck but protected by a bulletproof vest. The suspect, a 31-year-old schoolteacher from California, has been taken into custody, with early indications pointing to a politically motivated attack.
The incident marks the third known assassination attempt against Trump, following the July 2024 shooting in Pennsylvania and a foiled sniper plot in Florida later that year.
Despite frequent tensions and ideological differences between European leaders and the Trump administration, many leading politicians were quick to condemn the assassination attempt against the US president, echoing sentiments similar to those expressed by Viktor Orbán.

French President Emmanuel Macron, British Prime Minister Keir Starmer, German Chancellor Friedrich Merz, Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni, and even Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez—one of the most vocal critics of Trump in Europe—expressed support for Trump and relief that the incident did not result in casualties among attendees.
Similarly, European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen expressed her solidarity with Trump and First Lady Melania, underlining that ‘political violence has no place in our democracies.’
