A century-old Ford Model T has arrived at the Hungarian National Museum, where it will go on display as one of the centrepieces of the American Dream – Hungarians in the United States 1776–2026 exhibition opening on Thursday.

The historic vehicle was lifted into the museum with a crane on Monday morning before being carefully moved into the building under strict safety precautions, the museum said in a statement.

The car, which belongs to the Hungarian Museum of Transport, is of particular significance because two Hungarian engineers, József Galamb and Jenő Farkas, contributed to the design of the iconic Model T. Exhibition curators Klára Radnóti and Angelika Orgona selected the vehicle as one of the exhibition’s highlights.

100 éves autó a Nemzeti Múzeumban

3 nap múlva nyílik az „Amerikai álom” kiállítás Megérkezett a Ford T-modell a Magyar Nemzeti Múzeumba, ma délelőtt daruval emelték fel és a legnagyobb óvintézkedések mellett gurították be a járművet az épületbe. A Közlekedési Múzeum műtárgya azért is különleges, mert a típus tervezésében két magyar mérnök is részt vett: Galamb József és Farkas Jenő.

The Model T is celebrating its 100th anniversary this year. It is powered by a 3.5-litre engine producing 18 horsepower and remains in working condition.

The exhibition marks the 250th anniversary of the independence of the United States and explores the history of Hungarians who emigrated to America.

Alongside the Ford Model T, visitors will see a wide range of historical artefacts documenting the lives of Hungarian emigrants and prominent figures who spent part of their lives in the United States. The exhibition includes memorabilia connected to personalities such as Lajos Kossuth, Albert Szent-Györgyi, Zsa Zsa Gabor and Zita Szeleczky.

American Dream – Hungarians in the United States 1776–2026 will be open to visitors from 30 July until 1 November.
