Lancashire Police have confirmed that the man arrested over the shocking stabbing of a teenage girl in Brierfield is a British-born Pakistani, as detectives continue to investigate the incident as attempted murder. The attack, which was captured on video and circulated widely online, shows the 17-year-old victim being stabbed in the neck from behind in broad daylight before managing to escape.

Lancashire Police have confirmed that the suspect arrested over the shocking daylight stabbing of a teenage girl in Brierfield is a British-born Pakistani man, as investigators continue to probe what authorities are treating as attempted murder.

The announcement came on 13 June, a day after a 17-year-old girl was attacked in broad daylight on Wood Street in the Lancashire town. Disturbing footage of the incident, which has since circulated widely on social media, appears to show the teenager walking along the street when a man suddenly approaches her from behind and stabs her in the back of the neck before she flees the scene. The attack took place in full view of nearby residents, contributing to the public shock surrounding the case.

Police were called to the scene at approximately 3.06pm on Friday following reports that a girl had been assaulted and suffered a stab wound to the neck. Armed officers responded and arrested a 30-year-old man from Brierfield shortly afterwards on suspicion of attempted murder. He remains in custody.

Despite the severity of the attack, the victim’s injuries are not believed to be life-threatening. Lancashire Police confirmed on Saturday that the teenager has now been discharged from hospital and is recovering at home with the support of her family.

Detectives stressed that there are currently no further suspects being sought and that there is no evidence at this stage to suggest the attack was racially motivated. Authorities have not released any information regarding a possible motive and have urged the public not to speculate while the investigation remains ongoing.

Video footage of the attack has spread rapidly across social media platforms, with many viewers expressing shock that a teenage girl could be targeted in such a violent manner in broad daylight on a residential street. After the nationality of the suspect was revealed, many pointed to the consequences of mass migration for public safety.

The attack comes amid an already tense atmosphere across the United Kingdom following a separate incident in Belfast, Northern Ireland, earlier this week, in which a Sudanese migrant carried out a knife attack widely described by witnesses as an attempted beheading. The victim in that case remains in a serious condition in hospital. The incident sparked anti-immigration demonstrations in Belfast and elsewhere in the UK, some of which descended into violent clashes with police.
