Dutch authorities are investigating a double murder after a 15-year-old girl stabbed her parents to death inside their home near Groningen. According to classmates, the suspect had previously been identified as a boy and later as a dog, while reports also claim that she sent WhatsApp messages containing photographs of her parents covered in blood to classmates shortly after the killings.

A 15-year-old Dutch girl who reportedly identified first as a boy and later as a dog has been arrested on suspicion of fatally stabbing her parents inside their home in Meerstad, near Groningen, during the early hours of 18 June.

Dutch authorities are investigating the case as a double murder but have not disclosed a motive. According to media reports, the suspect even sent photos of her parents covered in blood to classmates via WhatsApp shortly after the killing, making the case even more disturbing than it already is. Authorities have urged anyone in possession of such material not to share it and instead provide it directly to investigators.

The victims, identified by local media as Johan and Mathilda, both 53, were found dead at the family home. Dutch prosecutors have confirmed that the teenager remains in custody under strict restrictions while the investigation continues.

According to classmates interviewed by Dutch media, the suspect had struggled with her identity for years. Several pupils claimed that she initially wanted to be addressed as a boy before later identifying as a dog. One classmate told reporters that the teenager ‘wore a tail, dog ears, and gloves’ and would ‘crawl around on all fours and bark while running through the school corridors’. Another pupil said the suspect had been absent from school for extended periods and appeared increasingly withdrawn.

Neighbours also described years of unusual behaviour. Residents told Dutch newspapers they had seen the girl running through the streets late at night, sitting silently on sheds and fences, and hiding in bushes. One neighbour recalled that she was ‘always strange and kept herself to herself’, while others described the family as quiet and generally well-liked.

Investigators also found the family’s golden retriever suffering from apparent stab wounds. Dutch media further reported allegations that the teenager had previously injured the family’s cat, although police have not publicly confirmed those claims.

The case sparked fierce backlash on social media, particularly among critics of transgender ideology and youth gender medicine. Among the most prominent reactions, US trillionaire Elon Musk argued that ‘giving rage-inducing hormones to mentally ill people obviously greatly increases risk of murder and suicide’.

Numerous commentators wrote that the teenager’s identification as a boy and later as a dog reflected untreated mental illness rather than an identity issue, while others accused schools, parents, and healthcare providers of enabling delusions instead of seeking psychiatric treatment.

Several users pointed to the Dutch Protocol—the framework that influenced modern youth gender-dysphoria treatment—arguing that ‘gender-affirming care’ causes serious harm. Others questioned whether medication or hormonal treatment may have played a role; however, it remains unclear whether the suspect underwent any form of medical treatment.

Despite the widespread attention, Dutch authorities have released very little information about a possible motive. Prosecutors have not commented on the suspect’s reported identity issues or mental health. The teenager remains under strict restrictions, meaning she is only permitted to communicate with her lawyer while the investigation continues.
