Former US Vice President Kamala Harris uploaded a video to her Instagram page on Monday, 10 August. In it, she is urging the American people to get out and vote in the upcoming midterm elections this November. However, she also warns of potential cheating by the Republican side.
‘We have a lot of work to do because, you know, those folks are cheating. They’re trying to rig the system. They are trying to draw the maps, all of that,’ VP Harris has said.
With that statement, she is referring to the new congressional maps put in place by Republican-majority legislatures in states like Texas, Florida, and Louisiana that are likely to yield new House seats for the GOP. However, she omits to mention that Democrats did the same in her home state of California; and attempted to do it in Virginia as well, but the State Supreme Court ruled that they did so in an illegal way.
Even more interestingly, Harris tells her audience that: ‘We have to turn out in big numbers to jump over all these obstacles they’re trying to throw our way. We have to be too big to rig.’
‘Too big to rig’ was a campaign slogan used by President Trump in the 2024 presidential election—it was even frequently featured on unofficial merchandise worn by his supporters at campaign events. The phrase was a reference to President Trump’s claims about widespread voter fraud in the 2020 election, which he believes cost him the presidency back then.
Harris ran against President Trump in the 2024 presidential election as the Democratic candidate, and ended up losing. Trump, leading the Republican ticket, won 312 electoral votes against Harris’ 226.
Not the First Time Kamala Harris Takes Campaign Slogan from Trump
Also in the lead-up to the 2024 election, President Trump pledged to make tips tax-exempt at a campaign rally in Las Vegas, Nevada in June 2024. In August 2024, Kamala Harris made the same promise to voters in the same city, without referencing President Trump.
With the passage of the One Big Beautiful Bill through a reconciliation vote in the US Congress in July 2025, tips did become exempt from federal income taxes in the United States.
