An image of some of President Trump’s most prominent detractors from the right posing together in Tucker Carlson’s studio in Woodstock, Maine, was shared by Former Congresswoman Marjorie Taylor Greene of Georgia, one of the people included, on the social media site X on Saturday, 1 August.
The other notable people in the picture are Congressman Thomas Massie of Kentucky and former US intelligence officer Joe Kent.
The caption Taylor Greene shared along with the picture has made people speculate that there is more behind the post than just some social media glamour.
‘We said no more foreign wars and we meant it and supported Donald Trump because he made that promise. But he’s betrayed us all. Our commitment is America First for all Americans, right, left, and center. The movement has begun,’ the Former Congresswoman wrote.
Based on that wording, it is plausible that she, Carlson, Kent, and Massie are contemplating either forming a third party or starting a movement to support independent candidates in certain congressional or statewide races. While it is nearly impossible that such an initiative would lend the group national political power, it could be enough to spoil a close national election for the Republican Party.
Thus, this may very well be more of a ‘revenge operation’ against President Trump.
All three prominent former Republicans had heavily criticized the incumbent POTUS, mainly for his handling of the Epstein case and the Iran war. As a result, Taylor Greene resigned from Congress, Massie lost his primary after serving seven terms in the House of Representatives, and Tucker Carlson had a major dip in the size of his audience.
Of the issues pitting the ‘breakaways’ against President Trump, the most pressing one has recently had a significant breakthrough. Trump has called off the planned bombing campaign against the Iranian energy infrastructure and announced that a new deal is pending with the IRGC regime.
This development was praised by Joe Kent on X, just one day after his inclusion in the photo challenging President Trump’s influence over the Republican Party.
The announcement of a new pending deal between the USA and Iran has eased crude oil prices in the international futures markets as well. A barrel of Texas-produced WTI crude oil has been trading under $80 this morning.
Tucker Carlson and Elon Musk: Threats of Third Parties
Almost exactly a year ago, in July 2025, another one of President Trump’s prominent allies threatened to form a third party to hinder the Republicans’ electoral chances.
Prompted by disagreements over the One Big Beautiful Bill, Elon Musk went as far as announcing the formation of the new American Party. However, he ultimately abandoned the project. He is now even reportedly planning a massive fundraising push to help the GOP in their midterm efforts, marking a sharp reversal from the world’s richest man’s earlier criticism of President Trump and his party.
